Hush Meter

Privacy Policy

Effective October 21, 2026

Hush Meter is built for classrooms, so it is designed to collect as little as possible. The sound in your room never leaves your device.

What happens to the sound

When you press Use microphone, your browser gives Hush Meter access to your microphone. Several times a second, Hush Meter reads the current sound level and turns it into one loudness number, which moves the meter. The sound itself is not recorded, stored or sent anywhere, and no one can listen to it. When you press Listening again, or close the page, the microphone is turned off.

What is saved, and where

Hush Meter remembers your settings in your own browser's storage, on your device: the voice level, the look, the sensitivity, the star interval and the star count. This information never reaches us. You can delete it by clearing your browser's site data.

Accounts and children

Hush Meter has no accounts and no sign-up. It is meant to be run by a teacher on a classroom computer. We do not ask for, collect or store personal information from students or anyone else.

Website statistics

To understand how many people visit, we may use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which counts page views without cookies and without identifying individual visitors. It does not receive any audio.

Hosting

The site is served by Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes basic connection information, such as IP addresses, to deliver the pages and protect the site from attacks. We do not use this information to identify you.

No advertising trackers

Hush Meter does not use advertising cookies, does not sell data and does not share data with advertisers.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we will update this page and its effective date. If we ever add features that need personal information, such as optional teacher accounts, we will explain them here before they launch.
